I am kind of still in shock. I am done with college. DONE. Lots of mixed feelings as of course you can probably figure them all out.

Senior Events are going to be my life for the next week though, which is awesome. This includes champagne brunch, one of the most famous traditions on Scripps. It was quite hilarious talking about a bunch of naked girls to my (male) organic chemistry professor over cosmos (yes, also provided by the school). I want to say, only at Scripps, but hey, you never know, right?

May 6th through 8th – Las Vegas. May 13th is graduation. May 14th, I leave for home. May 16th, I move into Cam and I’s new apartment!

This looks like something out of Stargate, the movie:

This is where my friend lives and right near my school:
“HEMET, CA - APRIL 26: Riverside County Environmental Health Services Specialist Barry Hess inspects water where mosquitoes are breeding by the thousands in a swimming pool behind an unoccupied house next to a golf course in the gated community of Canyon Lake on Thursday near Hemet, California. California health officials announced this week that West Nile Virus season is starting earlier than usual because of an unusually warm March. Mosquitoes that carry the virus have begun breeding earlier than usual and the West Nile Virus has been detected in mosquito pools, birds, or horses in eight California counties. Although the virus has not been detected in humans so far this year, 24 people have died and 1,200 sickened by the virus over the past two years in California.”

SCARY!!

My wonderful recent “global warming” story:
I went to the BoA ATM the other day. I parked across the street, did some errands then walked over to the ATM and noticed there was a car sitting in the spots right next to the ATMs with a door open and the motor running and no one near it. As I got closer to the ATMs I see two older people who obviously owned the car talking to a guy right by the ATM. Obviously, they were having a problem with the ATM, so they had been there for a little while as they had already to use the ATMs. I said, “ehh, your car is still running…” They of course just gave me the “duh” look and ignored me. I used the ATM, walked across the street, got into my car, drove back over to the bank area and they were STILL there, talking to whomever, with their car STILL on. OMG, people! Jesus… is it really that hard to turn the frelling switch? Anyways, I’ll stop raving.

His Dark Materials is being made into a movie??? When did this happen??? SWEET! I gotta reread the books now. Though I believe the guy in it is the guy is the new James Bond, but I could be wrong, didn't get a good luck in the trailer. Btw, there is a new Harry Potter trailer out and it will seriously give you shivers. Look it up and check it out!

So, I have to copy [info]mbaokea  and do the deamon thing:

Ocelot!  SO cute... though it seems that about 1/3rd of people who have taken this thing got an ocelot.

It looks like I am going to Las Vegas! :D May 6th - 8th. We are gonna see Ka, Spamalot, and either pen n' teller or thunder from down under (lmao!), we'll see. Good food, drinks, shows and hanging out, It'll be fun.

My thesis professor officially cares more about her pipettes than my thesis. She sent an email to someone else who used to work in the lab to make sure they got back to her lab. OMG... I don't think it can get any more ridiculous. I had a freak out session in the middle of JSD because of it.

My thesis poster presentation is tomorrow (well today now). Wish me luck! After that I am completely done with thesis!

Cam is on LJ everyone! [info]scampor  - friend him, I think he needs a little more LJ support :P

I will get an upgraded account, I promise! - Just not yet.

Ok, so my last post was really sad and depressing, so I promise a fun one! These are all things I’ve picked up through LJ communities (so you might have seen them), [info]scampor  , [info]commodoremarie , Kristen and [info]panpalette  .

Funny story from the atheism community:
( CLICK ME! )

Ridiculous “interview” with Richard Dawkins:

Two points for the first person to recognize the mime in this video:  (I am sorry, it is so annoying, but I just gotta know!)

credit: [info]puskunk

Cam’s youtube = break.com – here’s a LONG but very funny vid. There are some really crude comments, but if you can get over them you will laugh your head off I swear.
( NO, CLICK ME! )
If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, I understand, but a couple of the funny things you might have missed:
“who mastered the art of invisible blocks? Cuz I gotta get that shit.”
“Fucking worse than…
…reading youtube comments" (SO AGREE – who are those people???)
…an episode of family guy" (That is for you Cam)
…PANIC! at the disco!" (Just funny he even knows what that is)

So Kristen and Carrie are obsessed with this video and about had a heart attack when they found out I hadn’t seen it so to save anyone else from giving them a heart attack, I will pass it on. It is pretty damn funny.

I think they wanted a movie like Lost (but wasn’t) so they came up with this movie:
( No, guys, seriously, click me. )

WTF!!!!
( NO, I'M POMONA! ) - please know I am kidding, right?
This seriously makes me cry. Especially after looking at the comments.

HOLY SHIT! I can’t believe this SHIT happens.  This is a monologist (?) in NYC and 78 Christians walked out in the middle of the show.  You will see what happened.
( Seriously tho, this tops all that frellin' shit cuz this is the frelling shit. )

It is interesting that both the atheist (I assume) and the pro-Christian video use the phrase “you reap what you sow” – hmm.

Congratulations to all those done with thesis and good luck to those who are not!

My thesis is all done. Why does it seem like it doesn’t matter? Oh, ya, cuz that was my easiest class. Sigh. Only have 3 classes but I have no idea how it is all gonna get done. Anyone know how to go about proving the mechanism behind telomere length equilibrium?

I love how the copy center has one person working there (who has no clue what is going on as well) on one of the busiest binding days of the year. The “your thesis is too short to get bound” comment didn’t help my sympathy towards him either, especially because there are thesis shorter than mine sitting in Joint Science, bound. To that man: “do you wanna try to write a longer thesis in a year on genomically tagging dsk1 with a TAP tag? Cuz please… be my guest.” Takes you a year just to learn what the frell is going on.

- Can I add frell to the dictionary on Word? -

I love and hate this time of year. You are so close to done, which is awesome, but you still have so much to do, which sucks. Some people are done, which is awesome, but some people are stressed to the limit, which sucks. You want to be done so you can get of here, but you don’t want to leave your friends, which of course leads you to wasting time so you can be done, but then feeling bad about it because you should have spent that time with people. :sigh:

Good luck to everyone and their finals!

Ahhhh, the calm before the storm. Can I please enjoy it without being too stressed? Eh, oh well.

[info]commodoremarie  had an awesome post about Bill Clinton’s talk which she was such a lucky duck and got to go to. Funny story too. So CMC brought Bill Clinton to talk and used Big Bridges on Pomona to have the talk, however restricted it to CMC ONLY. Period, end of story (besides the dean and a couple guests I guess). So of course, Pomona threw a FIT. So CMC allowed a live feed to anyone. So Pomona takes the live feed, but only allows Pomona students to watch it. WTF? So freaking ironic and so pathetic for both colleges. Anyways enough bitchin’ – just glad I got an awesome account of it from Marie.

So I bought some of the awesome shirts the crew team made up: (* = ones I bought)

For Scripps: “Boys don’t go here, they come here.”*
Last Years: “T-shirt slogans are offensive to women.”
For Mudd: “Know how to engineer a car, but do they know how to use the backseat?”*
Last Years: “The odds are good, but the goods are odd.”
Two Years Ago: A bunch of math mumojumbo (theory of continuity) “and can’t get a date on Friday night.”
For Pomona: “We aren’t elitist, we are just better than you.”*
NOT wearing that one to my Pomona class!
For CMC: “Love fades, money is forever.” <- perfect. And, sold out.
For Pitzer: “Why go to college when you can go to Pitzer?” (reprint)

They are so awesome. I love making fun of all the stereotypes of our colleges. My favorite was my friend at Pitzer making fun of other colleges but then decided to be fair to state that he does smoke pot all the time. He is in my Pomona class which has at least one person from every college.

I also have the senior shirt coming: "This shirt laundered champagne money - Strong Women, Strong Minds" ... LOVE the irony.

I found out something today that no one else knows! Sir2 (a protein) is expressed in the cytoplasm, NOT the nucleus as it was expected to! Kind of awesome actually, even if you don’t understand that at all. Wish that research was my thesis and not the shit I did do.

Speaking of thesis, I need to bitch and I am sorry that most of you have heard this but, it has to be recorded. My first advisor send me back my draft of my thesis with some of the weirdest comments. I got one that asked me to include results from a specific experiment and in the NEXT sentence I talk about it. I have no idea how he could have missed it. I also highlighted a section and said, is this the correct name? – No response. He also asked me to include experimental procedure explanation… excuse me? There is a 10 page section labeled “METHODS AND MATERIALS.” WTF. I am suppose to get my second readers comments back today. :crossing fingers: Every single email I have received from her has reminded me to lock the pipets back up when I am done with them. I think she cares more about her pipets than my thesis… :sigh:

I am just counting down until the 3rd of May. I am donedonedonedonedone DONE.
Days left: 15

[info]kakalinalinei , [info]panpalette , [info]smiliechick1024  and Kristen all went out to a fun dinner on the town last night. It was fun, nostalgic though. :/ First dinner we have had just the 5 of us since probably last semester. God, I am gonna miss all my friends… I am already way too sad about this fact!

The world will be on Facebook soon. I just found out that there are 5 ppl in a network for Lindal Cedar Homes. I can’t even join because I don’t have a valid Lindal email address!! Wtf!

Sorry this post is getting long, it has just been too long since a post!

For some fun stuff:

I know many of you on the atheism community might have seen this, but this is just awesome, so I am showing it again:

Ok, it is getting to an extreme for everything that is going on. I will save you from the list! One savior is that my Molecular Biology professor (Emily Wiley) is AWESOME and keeps changing dates and giving us breaks. She is CANCELLING a midterm and instead just giving us a bigger take home quiz. Knocking off 25 points! Sweet! Plus a couple other awesome things.

She also invited me to a party/BBQ for her lab at her house! Even though I am not in her lab, she though since I don’t have a lab at joint science I could join her party! Makes me so giddy!

Enjoy (if you take genesis literally, please don’t watch it):
( Genesis 19 )

(If you don’t know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, wikipedia it. I was ignorant too, I admit it, but it made it so much more funny!)

Almost done with my first draft of my thesis but my advisor still wants me to go in and do more work this weekend. Lol. Oh well, maybe it will work!! Here’s to hoping!

Love to all you friends!

I posted this it scripps_college too, but just in case you arn't on that:

I'm graduating this year and need to get rid of a bunch of stuff because I only have my little car to get everything back up to Seattle! So here are some things that you can have at the end of the year. If you want a picture of anything, just ask, I didn't want to take pics of it ALL. I'll probably add stuff later too. Some of the stuff I would even give you now if you really want it!

Also, if you want to just come check any of it out, just aim me at curiousmindz or come by GJW 218.

Stuff I’d like a little money for, but I need to get rid of it, so just make any offer and I’ll probably take it (or call dibs on it, if you want it for free and if I don’t get any offers, it is yours):
- A large minirefrigerator (Sanyo) that you get from Costco (silver front)
- A lab notebook with carbon copies, big one! Never used! (maybe two pages out of it?)
- 84th edition of the CRC
- 3 foot by 1 foot, 3 shelf bookshelf (open back) from Target.
- Off white 8 foot curtains, crinkly pattern to them. Have velco at top so can just slip over a rod (especially nice for closets in GJW).
- Body pillow, barely used, new last year with a dark blue pillow case.
- White canvas multi shelf hanging shoe/other stuff holder.

Completely Free:
- 6 foot floor lamp, can’t be dismantled, it is one of those lamps that shine upwards. (from target)
- Shower caddy, nice blue one from Bed bath and beyond
- Another little 1 foot high by 1.5 feet long bookshelf thingy with a drawer in the bottom.
- Molecular Biology book, don’t know if they are getting a new edition, but if they don’t, you can have this one for free! Corners are beat up, some highlighting.
- Multi-tabbed folder thingy that has the elastic bit that comes around and keep it closed. Opens kind of like an accordion.
- White 1 inch, three ring binder.
- White ½ inch, three ring binder.
- Black clippy reading lamp.
- White plug in hot water pot (has the element in the middle inside, so you can also heat up soups and make top ramen in it).

Also, if you know anyone living in either GJW 213 or 218, we have an awesome set of black out curtains that will go between the two rooms. They might work in other rooms too, but they were designed for this doorway. We'd like some money for them because they did take some time/effort/money to make, but neither of us can use them, so we will take any (but the best) offer.

Back from Vegas!

Short and sweet trip. About a 3.5 hour drive. We stayed at circus circus, which I don’t recommend, btw. FULL of kids, but the price was right. It literally was just the place we slept. Right after we dropped out bags and got dressed, we ran off to Cirque de Soliel’s show Love. AMAZING, FRELLING AMAZING! Wow, nearly wanted to make us sneak into the later show again! Wow.

After the show we watched the volcano explode at the mirage (where the so was) then spent until 1 o’clock in the morning perusing shops, going to bars/restaurants, playing penny/nickel/quarter slots, and people watching at the Venetian. Had an amazing lemon drop and mojito, done right, both of which I have been craving. Man, I need to learn how to make at least a lemon drop properly. I couldn’t believe these English stayed up till 1 am (they are like 80!).

We hung out at The Rio and Caesars Palace the next day before heading back. I won $6 at the penny slots! My aunt won $50, so not too bad. It did make me miss Europe though. Especially seeing the Venetian, which I didn’t see last time I was in Las Vegas.

My English relatives are quite the lot to do anything with too. The language barrier can be real funny, but sometimes really embarrassing. If want specifics, ask, because at the moment, I am too embarrassed still to write them out.

Off to do thesis. 4 days remaining, nothing to write about but 10 pages to write.

/Tina

PS: I summed it all up pretty well when I told Carrie about the night at the Venetian:

"So, you’re sitting in the Venetian and it’s the middle of the night. But there’s a blue sky above you, and it’s the middle of the night but it’s the middle of the day. You’re in Venice, but you’re in the middle of the desert. And…you’re eating... Mexican food?"

In the middle of this craziness, I must escort my mother and three of her English relatives to Las Vegas for the night. I'll be back tomorrow, thank god, and back to work too. I should be more excited, except my thesis is due next week. Oh well, guess 36 hours with the relatives is required when they fly 10+ hours to get here! I get to see my first Cirque de Solie (sp?) show! Love. Fun, awkward times with my mother and crazy relatives. Good thing my relatives are not the prudish ones!

Claire came and visited! Yaa! Lots of HS reminiscing!

Cute pic from Carrie to start off the weekend on a good note:

Ok, stress is nearing the point of needing to avoid people!! AHHHH. Maybe this weekend will help. Though probably not because I won’t be able to get anything done.

I’ll be busy with Claire (yaaaa, she’s coming to visit me!!!) tomorrow. Then my mom and three of our English relatives will be carrying me off to Las Vegas (really, I’m just needed to drive I think. lol.) I will actually get to prove to everyone that I have English relatives! :D

I have now done 10 western blots and I have absolutely NOTHING to show for it. Grrr, dammit.

Econ exam is done though and nothing to do in that class for over a week! Sweet!

I got to spend another almost 3 hours putting out all those plants I planted and cages I made with all the lanolin I melted yesterday. (that was the most amazing sentence ever)

So Kat and I found out as I was leaving the room earlier that we weren’t going to see each other for over 3 days. She is visiting USD and then I’ll be in Las Vegas. Odd. Funny how it works that way. Hey, at least now my friend and her mom all get a nice bed to sleep in.

I am addicted to green tea.

This beautiful thing called Homo sapiens
Not the best day, so a little bitching, but not much.

I got to spend 6 hours:
- making 24 foot high wire cages for plants
- melting lanolin (basically wool fat)
- repotting 50 pea plants

Yes, it sucked. I ended with cuts all over my arms and dirt everywhere. Worse things in life I guess.

Then I got to be pissed off by the following posts:

( Girl Power Hour )
The first one is a girl gamer group getting together to play and then having guys yell at us for it.

Wait, then, this thread, that was quickly closed. Not quite sure what it was suppose to do, but note the
( “Men pwning Girls EVENT!" )

If all the sexism wasn’t enough there was also the religious superiority comment: “you do realize that's easter. i really doubt that many will be able to get on that day.”

EDIT: I sure put my foot in my mouth though, that guy/girl was part of the GP group and I posted that he/she was narrowminded. FRELL!!! It still is true, but I should not have said it.

I knew there was a reason I stopped playing. Get used to it right? I don't wanna, it is wrong. Can I whine more?

:sigh:

In order to relieve all this tension I decided to screw work for a bit and cheer myself up with good farscape eps. I think it worked!
